CLASS DESCRIPTION

All classes except Design for Beaders are $30 class fee plus the cost of materials used. Come in to the studio to see our class samples.

 

If there’s a class described below which you cannot find on our schedule, please enquire – maybe it’s time to run it again. Alternatively, we can offer private tuition in any class.

 

BEADING BASICS (Sample Photo 1) (Sample Photo 2)

A great place to start your beading journey. We’ll cover basic design, a little background about bead types and history, wire and threads, tools and their use, and attaching clasps. You will complete a simple single strand necklace or bracelet in class and leave with the confidence to carry on.

WIRE BASICS (Sample Photo 1) (Sample Photo 2) (Sample Photo 3)

Wirework is an integral part of many jewellery pieces favoured today. This is a techniques-based class for those who wish to learn to make earrings or get to grips with chain-linking. So you’ll learn and practise a raft of techniques and come away with earrings or a simple chain-linked bracelet.

TOTALLY WIRED (Sample Photo 1) (Sample Photo 2)

Learn to make these crazy wired beads, incorporate seeds if you wish and make them into a bracelet or necklace.

CROCHETED CUFF (Sample Photo 1) (Sample Photo 2)

An embellished crocheted cuff, fine wire in your choice of silver, gold or copper, fastened with an easy sliding clasp. Knowledge of crochet desirable.

CRYSTAL TWIST NECKLACE (photo coming)

A most delicious stitched spiral twist encrusted with Swarovskis. Begin in class, complete at home.

Learn how to make the most of your wigjig, then create a pair of earrings and a bracelet. Pre-requisites … your own wigjig and one of our wirework classes (chainlinking, earrings, rosary, or multi-chain bracelet).

Build on the techniques learnt in the wig jig basics class. See the sample … it’s dainty and divine. Pre-requisite - our wigjig basics course

MACRAME MAGIC … the Bracelet (Sample Photo 1) (Sample Photo 2)(Sample Photo 3)

If you remember macramé pot holders and tasseled belts, you may have an edge with this one. If not, in making the bracelets you’ll become familiar with a sampler of knots and bead embellishment techniques. Addictive! Great thread colours too choose from too.

 

MORE MACRAME MAGIC … the Necklace (Sample Photo 1)

Pre-requisite for this class: Macrame Magic or previous macramé experience. An embellished necklace featuring a variety of macramé knots.

HERRINGBONE STITCHED BRACELET (Sample Photo 1)

Learn even-count herringbone and craft a beautiful bracelet with clasp attachment. Project may not be finished in class, but you will learn everything you need to complete it at home.

MORNING GLORY BRACELET (Sample Photo 1)

Elegant wrapped loops, clustered in beautiful colour combinations. Come in and see our sample.

MULTI-CHAIN BRACELET (Sample Photo 1)

Several strands of different chains berried with beads.

BYZANTINE BEAUTY BRACELET (Sample Photo 1) (Sample Photo 2)

A beautiful bracelet incorporating Byzantine chain maille weave with beads of your choice. Drapes elegantly and easily.

CHUNKY BEADED TASSEL(Sample Photo 1)(Sample Photo 2)

This tassel is constructed with big beads and hangs from a pretty chain or from a beaded necklace: it’s a stunner.

THE ELEGANT DAISY BRACELET

An old favourite - this beautiful bracelet is quick to make up and lends itself to an endless number of bead and colour combinations. A needle-weaving technique and an excellent introduction to the delights of off-loom bead weaving.

PLAITED MULTI-STRAND CHOKER (Sample Photo 1)

Learn how to construct a multi-strand necklace with this class piece, a plaited choker using one of our beautiful Miyuki mixes as a base.

TWISTY WIRE CUFF (Sample Photo 1)

A neat wrist-hugging cuff. Gorgeous colour combinations with a twist.

TOTALLY WIRED

Learn to make your own beads from coloured copper-based wire – a twisty whirlwind of beads which can be embellished with seeds if you wish. These are fun to make and look great combined with other beads in a bracelet or necklace.

Crochet an abundance of wire and beads, a standout piece for winter woollies.

Select a super combo of focal beads and combine with chain to make a stunning lariat.

This class is a winner – don’t miss it this time round! We have three designs and all the colours of the rainbow to choose from.

BEADED CHARM BRACELET (Sample Photo 1)

Select your own combination of beads (maybe you have favourite orphans in your bead stash already) to complete the latest twist on an old-fashioned charm bracelet. We can provide a sterling silver or gold-filled linked base bracelet. Creations in this class have been amazing!

BEADED RING (Sample Photo 1)

Beaded rings are becoming popular in the bead world – our design is quick and fun to make. One is definitely not enough!

FRESHWATER FLOWER BRACELET

A stunner! Adorned, embellished, luscious … not difficult, but Beading Basics a prerequisite. This is the class sample everyone admires. Please be aware that most people don’t finish this piece in class, but you’ll leave with all the knowledge and skills to complete it at home.

Take a crochet hook, some fine wire, elegant beads and some sequins, and soon we have a multi-stranded masterpiece.

FINDINGS

Learn to make your own findings – using sterling silver or copper-based wire, learn to make your own hook clasps, earwires, headpins and more. Now you can truly individualise your pieces.

For those of you intrigued by the possibilities of combining beads and ribbons (both organza and wire mesh). Lots of samples, ideas and techniques.

Find out what all the fuss is about… learn basic chainmaille technique, becoming familiar working with jumprings. Practice three designs, then choose one and make it into a beautifully draping bracelet.

It had to come … so many of you are loving our rosary findings, we thought we’d offer the opportunity to come along and create your own rosary.

DESIGN for BEADERS

Our guest Linley Main is an experienced design tutor, lamp bead maker and designer of beaded jewellery who teaches design for bead stringing. W orking on specific exercises, you’ll

  • learn how to identify quickly what works in your design, what doesn’t and why, and
  • look at how shapes, colours and bead sizes work together.

Participants will complete a necklace or bracelet project in class. Beading Basics or some jewellery-making experience a pre-requisite. $35.00 plus materials

BEAD NIGHT (Sample Photo 1)

A good place to be on a winter evening. Bring along a project to work on: be inspired by the creativity of others. For those with some beading experience. $10 each per night. Please book so we are sure to have seats for everyone.

 

BEAD SALON        

Join our new group – once a month (second Wednesday of the month) come along to the studio with your projects, or browse our extensive bead book library for new ideas. Gather round the table with good company and bead to your heart’s content. Previous  beading experience a must, please.

 

MOTHERS AND DAUGHTERS (Sample Photo 1) (Sample Photo 2) (Sample Photo 3)

This is Beading Basics for young women (12 years and up) and their mums or aunts or fairy godmothers … Costs $40 per pair.

A GATHERING OF FRIENDS

We’d love to host a group of friends, your coffee group or workmates to come together for a couple of hours of fun and creativity. We’ll provide instruction on a project selected by your group. $25 per person plus materials. Minimum 5 people, maximum 7.

TIME ON YOUR OWN (PRIVATE TUITION)

$50.00 per hour, one hour minimum.

REGISTRATIONS and THE FINE PRINT

  • Classes are limited to six or eight participants (depending on the project), which allows lots of time for individual attention.
  • We reserve the right to cancel classes if minimum numbers aren’t reached. In this case, you will receive a prompt refund.
  • Your place is reserved upon payment in full of the class fee. We’ll keep a waiting list for the popular classes or schedule another class.
  • Refunds or credits are not available to those who cancel within five days of a class, unless their place can be filled from our waiting list.
  • Classes have an age limit of 16 years and older. Our younger customers are most welcome to join the “Mothers and Daughters” class, or to come in to the studio any time during our open hours and create.
  • Class samples are available for viewing in the studio.
  • We provide tools for use in class. If you have your own, you may wish to bring them along.
  • Don’t forget your reading glasses.
  • Please turn cellphones off in class.
